Nagasaki Japan, 2013
Hey peoples. So I know the last time I posted here I was all stoked to be living in Japan, and rocking my new iPhone 5 and super *HD* stop-motion app… Well, seven months later, I’m still stoked to be in Japan, but I fell off the stop-motion wagon. Reason is, that HD app was TOO HD… I couldn’t really figure out a way to make nice small GIFs with it (I’m dumb-boy), and I sort of lost patience with trying to wrangle the huge-ass time-lapse videos I made into a form that would be easy for quick and light viewing. They may show up later as a proper HD Youtube video or something… not sure yet.
I experimented with some other stop-motion apps, but none of them had the feel I wanted. I also got into Vine in a big way and post there sometimes, (look me up by my real name “Evan Hayden”), and it’s a lot of fun, but it’s not quite the same as my cruddy GIF stop-motion clips. It doesn’t replace those in my heart, rather supplements them.
…but hey GOOD NEWS!! I was somehow able to download the old iMotion app that I used to use on my old iPhone 3G, and load it onto my 5, despite it not being in the app store anymore. I can once again easily make small stop-motion GIFs, and they look a bit better thanks to the 5’s better camera, but they are not crazy huge either. I’ll be posting my first batch shortly… Hopefully this means that the blog will be properly revived :-)

Sorry it’s so big…
(wish I could say that more often in life!)
…let’s see what we can see. Okay, enough quotes from seminal sci-fi classics, my humble little stop-motion GIF blog is back after a restructuring period! I finally got a chance to sit down and figure out a proper way to convert the HD .mov files from my new app into low-res GIFs for easier internet enjoyment. The only problem with this first batch I’ll be posting is that they are pretty long time-lapse scenes and are still sort of big file sizes, but bear with me, I’ll be posting some more tiny little ones in the future! In the meantime, here’s a little time-lapse of Nagasaki Station!

Remember Blingee animated gif maker for MySpace? Here’s something fun from the vaults. It’s not a stop-motion gif like everything else on this blaawwg, so it’s a bit off-topic, but it is nonetheless spastic and fun!

PS: Still hoping to post the new stop-motions soon. Honestly been so dang busy I haven’t had time to sit down and figure out a new system yet…
Hey kids, Evan here. Just wanted to pop in to give an update on the status of my stop-motion animations, and some insight into the future of this blog… don’t worry, it’s all good news!
Big changes have been going on since a month ago when I last posted. I now live in Nagasaki Japan and am working as an English teacher! I have a new iPhone 5 here, and my old iMotion app isn’t compatible with it, but fear not, I have the NEW iMotion app! After taking a little hiatus from making goofy animations & time-lapses this past month, last night I hit the streets around Nagasaki Station and made a bunch of time-lapse videos. I’m hoping to post them soon. The new app does its magic in glorious HD, which is awesome, but the app exports in .mov format, so I just need to figure out how to convert those into more low-res web-friendly looping .gif files for this blog. I might also occasionally upload montages of HD stop-motion stuff to Youtube or Vimeo and post them here.
Anyway, stay tuned… more fun stop-motion .gifs are coming your way soon, once I fine-tune my process a bit :-)
Hanging out with Ryan at his mom’s place for Christmas.
Bonus Pixie (Ryan’s mom’s dog) and Magnus (my cat)!
